BODY & PAINT
Take the car apart and either replace or repair the damaged parts. The metalwork for repair is brought to as close as it can be (usually within 1/16th of an inch) before filler is applied to it. The body filler is applied and sanded to a minimum of 150 grit (the finer the filler is sanded before priming the less shrinkage the filler will have). Then it goes to the paint shop for priming and final sanding.
Wash the panels with soap and water, degreasing the panels to remove any wax, silicone, or contaminants on the paint. Then, depending on the type of repair being done, we’ll determine what grit sandpapers are used to sand the panel to prep it for the paint. Every painted panel is sanded with several different grits of sandpaper to create the best possible paint adhesion to the surface.
The painter mixes the color from our in-house mixing bank (typically it takes 6-8 different colors mixed to the tenth of a gram to come up with the color of your car). The painter then tests the color on a spray out card to make sure it is a perfect match. If the color isn’t quite perfect, the painter will tint the color to get it as close to as humanly possible to the vehicle’s color. When the painter has the color right, he will begin the painting process starting with a sealer, next the color, and finally the clear coat. After the paint is cured, the painter will remove any minor surface defects so that your car looks as good or better than it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. We chemically catalyze our paint as well as bake the paint just like the automobile manufacturers do to get the hard desired matching finish.
